FAQ's

Are you a nursing student, EMS student, nurse, physician, EMS provider, or other healthcare or emergency medicine practitioner? Then BLS is for you! Depending on how advanced your skills, scope of practice, and position are, you may also need our ACLS or PALS offerings. If you need all three, be sure to check out our Triple Play offering.

Are you an employee or an employer of an OSHA regulated business? Then you should look at our Heartsaver® courses. We currently offer Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED for industries, and Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED for those who work in childcare such as child care workers, camp counselors, foster care workers, youth organizations, and youth sports organizations.

Teachers and administrators of K-12 school systems, may register for a custom course called Heartsaver® Educator that is tailored to your needs and available exclusively to you.

We also offer the Heartsaver® Water Safety and Heartsaver® Babysitter courses for the community. Please use the contact form if you would like more information about these courses.

  1. Sign in to elearning.heart.org.
  2. Click on your name.
  3. Select Certificates and Ecards from the dropdown. This will take you to the Completion and CME/CE Certificates .
  4. Click on the envelope to email the certificate or click on the down arrow to download a copy.

If you have not yet completed the survey from the course, that must be done before the certificate will be available. We cannot issue your provider card without this certificate of completion. Screen shots are not accepted.

If you have technical questions or need further technical assistance, please contact the AHA by email at elearning.help@heart.org or by phone at (888) 242-8883 Option 1. They are open Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST.

While the American Heart Association does offer didactic learning options online as a part of their Blended Learning Model, we caution a student against enrolling in any course that states the student can achieve BLSACLSPALS, or First Aid certification completely online.

CPR is a tactile, practiced skill

CPR is a highly tactile skill, requiring physical interaction with an appropriate manikin to master. During a traditional CPR certification course, the student will practice CPR compressions and breaths repeatedly, physically on a manikin to gain competence.

A CPR certified student must be able to accurately understand the physical feel of compressions to the minimum depth as specified per guidelines. This is not possible in a totally online course.

Employer requirements for CPR certification

Many employers require the employees to hold a certification in some form of CPR. For employees required to have CPR training, OSHA standards specify that online-only certifications are not acceptable. More can be found in this OSHA Statement.

For this reason, we recommend that a student seeking certification or recertification should check with their employer to assess their requirements prior to signing up for any training course.

The following excerpt is taken directly from National CPR Association, an online CPR provider, copied in full here for your convenience.

“Can I get an AHA Provider Card?

Currently, the AHA does not accredit, approve, nor endorse any fully online BLS or CPR certification or renewal course, so the answer is no. The AHA requires an in-person, hands-on- skills assessment as a part of their certification program, and that is not possible online.”

I have come to CSRE for both my BLS and ACLS and I would absolutely recommend for people looking for certifications around Richmond. The hybrid online and in person skills make it convenient and easy to get certified or renewal and the instructors are always very knowledgable and friendly!

This is my 8th time renewing my BLS for healthcare professionals and it was my best experience yet. They offer in person and hybrid classes to fit your needs. I did the in person course with Kristen and it went very smoothly. The material was relevant, everything was explained well and Kristen was very kind and professional. It was only me in the class but the max occupancy is 6 so you can ask any questions you have. I would recommend this to anyone who wants or needs CPR training.

The class size was nice and small so I felt very comfortable asking questions. The instructor was super nice and made sure we understood and answered all questions I had. I left feeling very confident in my ability to be able to perform cpr on both adults and infants!! Highly recommend.
